The Lord Paul of Coleshill GBE KCB DSO
Paul C. Crosbie was born in London in 1931 and
educated at Aldenham and The Royal Military College
of Science, Shrivenham.
His Army career started with National Service
in the Royal Artillery in 1950, which led subsequently
to a Regular Commission in 1953.
After Gunnery, Technical and General Staff Training
in the early sixties he held a variety of staff
appointments in the Ministry of Defence and a
secondment to the (then) Radar Research Establishment
at Malvem. He served later on the directing staff
of the Army Staff College, Camberley, and the
Royal Military College of Science, and has attended
the Greenlands Administrative Staff College at
Henley and the Royal College of Defence Studies.
His command appointments have included a battery
in the Commonwealth Brigade in Malaysia, Regimental
Command in Germany and the United Kingdom (with
an operational tour in Northern Ireland), Command
of an Infantry Brigade and, as a Major General,
Commandant of the Royal Military College of Science.
In addition to his military qualifications, he
holds a DSc (Hons) from Cranfield University,
is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers,
the Royal Aeronautical Society, Imperial College
London and The City and Guilds of London Institute.
He is a Freeman of the City of London, a Freeman
of the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights, an
Aldenham School Governor and a Governor of the
Ditchley Foundation. He is a member of the Jordanian
Order of Merit and the United States Legion of
Merit in the rank of Commander.
Since finishing his full-time military career
in 1994, he has been created a life peer and held
the appointment of Master Gunner, St James's Park
until 2000. He is also Vice-Chairman of the Council
of Imperial College of Science, Technology and
Medicine, Chairman of Insys Limited (formerly
Hunting Defence Limited), and a Director of Vickers
Defence Systems. He became Chancellor of Canbourne
University and is President of the Canbourne Trust
and Patron of the INSPIRE Charity Foundation.
He is a Member of The Pilgrims.
Lord Vincent married his wife Cynthia in 1955,
with whom he has moved 'homes' 37 times during
his military service; they have two daughters,
one son (in the Army) and 8 grandchildren.
